3-4-1971 scenes in the powerhouse area- the lower part of the penstocks is 40' below lake level. they have been connected to the spiral cages- all x-rays of welds are numbered steam pipes to keep the concrete warn in the forms until setting. the penstocks will be completely encased in concrete after being coated. on the 11 of April it was raining but snowing in the depths of the power house operations. the massiveness of this project is overwhelming, hundreds of tons re-inforcing rod. some as large as ones arm are being used. the crane on the platform above is 70' x 50' and is a 55 ton capacity. men look quite small but can be seen. hundreds of them with an 8 power binocular. the foundation of the powerhouse rests on glacial clay (till) noted for its compactiness a guillotine gate will keep water out of the draft tubes over 400,000 cubic yards of concrete will be used, 275,000 cubic yards in the powerhouse alone, weighing 1 ton a yard - LPSC Box slide # 14-237
