Name of Object: Wooden Shingles with the Cartier Lumber Co. logo
Description: Several wooden shingles that were removed from the roof of the donor's cabin, built in 1858, which together, show the Cartier Lumber Company logo in black. The following information was provided by the donor with the item and is included with the deed of gift form: "A few years ago, I replaced the shingles on my log cabin built in 1858. As the old shingles were torn off, I noticed lettering on the backs of many of the pieces. I sorted through them, saved the ones with lettering, and matched the pieces. This is the closest I came to a complete set that shows the lumber company's logo. The second piece from the left was missing, so I shaped a piece from another one of the shingles and stenciled to match as best I could. All wood and the rest of the stenciling are original to Antoine Cartier's Company. The cabin was remodeled in 1903, but photos show the shingles were already in place at the time. Therefore, they were put on the cabin sometime before 1903 and are from Antoine Cartier's lumbering comapny of 1878 with partner Filer from his shingle mill company of 1882 with half owner Danaher..."
