Description: Narrative and photos of PM 17 saving PM 18 in 1926, written by Mary Edith Stram Perrault. It describes how Captain Van Dyke and crew of the PM 17 unloaded loaded rail cars from a stranded PM 18 on January 15, 1926. The PM 18 was aground on a reef 17 miles from Manitowoc WI. The two carferries were connected stern to stern and with the help of the swells the cars were rolled from the PM 18 to the PM 17. It took six hours in the storm but both ships survived the day.
